CRRN Release new evolved welfare benchmarks
As the reptile rescue sector continues to grow and evolve, so must the standards that support it.
At Central Reptile Rehome Network, we’ve taken everything we’ve learned—feedback, real-world experience, and the challenges rescues face daily—and developed the next phase of our welfare benchmarks.
These evolved benchmarks are designed to:
✅ Raise welfare standards across all species
✅ Improve clarity, consistency, and accountability
✅ Support rescues with better guidance, tools, and structure
✅ Strengthen public trust in genuine, responsible rescue work
This isn’t about replacing what’s already been achieved—it’s about building on it. Every rescue that has worked hard to meet previous benchmarks has helped shape this next step.
We’re moving towards a more structured, transparent, and welfare-led future—one that not only supports rescues, but protects the animals at the center of everything we do.
💚 Stronger standards. Better outcomes. Trusted rescues.

CRRN Tortoise and Turtle Sanctury appeal
Across the UK, we’re seeing a growing influx of tortoises and turtles coming into general reptile rescues—many of which aren’t specifically set up to meet their complex, long-term needs.
These are incredible animals, but they require specialised environments, care, and often long-term commitment that not every rescue is equipped to provide.
At Central Reptile Rehome Network, we’re actively looking to connect with tortoise and turtle specific sanctuaries and experienced rescues to help:
➡️ Move these animals into the right environments where their needs can be fully met
➡️ Support general rescues in acting responsibly and ethically
➡️ Allow rescues to focus on the species they are best equipped to care for
➡️ Improve overall welfare outcomes across the network
This isn’t just about rehoming—it’s about doing right by the animal and strengthening the standards of rescue as a whole.
If you run a sanctuary or specialise in tortoises or turtles, we want to hear from you.
📩 Get in touch today and be part of building a stronger, more responsible future for reptile rescue.

A busy easter for our rescues
Easter weekend is usually a time for relaxing and tucking into chocolate eggs, but for 3 of our rescues had other plans.
Ball python paradise rescue, Wild coast colubrids and Southwest reptile rescue between them took in a staggering 27 reptiles varying from royals to turtles and in different conditions, some requiring urgent vet treatment and some lucky enough just needing a good feed or soak.
We are pleased to confirm that any of the animals needing vet treatment have been seen by a vet and have or are receiving treatment.
All 3 rescues handled themselves responsibly and respectfully and our welfare team was on hand for any assistance.
